I'll serve for the rest of my life, vows the Queen... →
royalwatcher: It is 60 years to the day since she learned her beloved father, George VI, had died suddenly. In a heartbeat the strong, dutiful – but still unbelievably young – woman of 25 was thrust on to the world stage. Now aged 85, the Queen is a proud grandmother eight times over, with one great-grandchild and another on the way. Today, however, she makes clear that thoughts of...

100-year-old swears by Nintendo for brain health
Thursday, February 02, 2012 Kathleen Connell may have just turned 100, but she doesn’t feel a day over 80. Her brain is even younger - one of her video games scored her mental age as 64 years old, The Telegraph reports. Connell attributes her optimal brain health to her Nintendo DS, a hand-held video gaming device on which she plays about a dozen games, from Scrabble to Family Fortunes....

Bring a Tennis Ball to the Office
Bring a Tennis Ball to the Office When reading, squeeze the ball in your right hand. This stimulates the left side of your brain, which processes words. If it’s blueprints or instructions with diagrams, switch to your left hand. Stimulating the brain’s right side helps with visualizing and spatial relationships.

What does Stephen Hawking think about more than...
iheartchaos: Stephen Hawking may be in poor health and he may only have the function of a single muscle in his right cheek, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t still have desire. In an interview with New Scientist magazine, the theoretical physicist was asked what perplexing question he thought about the most and he answered: “Women. I find them a complete mystery.” Read More

Surprise Party
In 1940 the [George Burns and Gracie Allen] team launched a similar stunt when Allen announced she was running for President of the United States on the Surprise Party ticket. Burns and Allen did a cross-country whistlestop campaign tour on a private train, performing their live radio show in different cities. In one of her campaign speeches Gracie said, “I don’t know much about the...

Tiny Site Changes
1. Updated the domain to point from http://mheart.net to www.mheart.net rather than the (previously ambiguous) splotch of text that once was. 2. Added a favicon, which was designed by my friend Dr. Benny. Just a couple tweaks.

The Benjamin Franklin Effect
Franklin’s autobiography never mentions this guy’s name, but according to the book when Franklin ran for his second term as clerk, one of his colleagues delivered a long speech to the legislature lambasting Franklin. Franklin still won his second term, but this guy truly pissed him off. In addition, this man was “a gentleman of fortune and education” who Franklin believed would one day become a...

Obama for America: Hi, Tumblr. →
barackobama: It’s nice to meet you. There are lots of reasons we’re excited to be launching the Obama 2012 campaign’s new Tumblr today. But mostly it’s because we’re looking at this as an opportunity to create something that’s not just ours, but yours, too. We’d like this Tumblr to be a huge… Welcome!

Genealogy
I’m working on a project for my family. Creating a family tree is a monumental task and I’m feeling the software I’m currently using (Personal Ancestral File 5.2) isn’t enough. I’d like to get a program that offers a preview of the tree in order to better navigate toward ancestors to research. Any recommendations?

Pilates
So I’ve been working out more and it’s mostly thanks to pilates that my body is physically changing! I also do weight lifting sets that have helped my arms and legs. It’s awesome how much better you can feel just thanks to working out. Even if it’s a set of 20 crunches and then a shower, you’ll feel amazing. The hardest part is getting motivated. I have to...

That truck driver you flipped off? Let me tell you... →
Having gone on many, many long deliveries with a great friend, and having worked on a shipping dock myself, I can tell you this is all true. More truck-related things you should know: - You need to drive slower than an eighteen-wheeler when it’s raining or snowing. The reason these guys can go faster is they have far more traction and weight to hold them steady - you don’t....
